Because nobody reads this...

I want to write a few words about my best bud, lover, The Bride.

She, a widow, me, a widower met online twenty+ years ago.
Months in chat turned into long phone calls as I was five hundred miles away and semi retired and she was working in a high school.
In our fifties we were not looking, but the phone calls got kinda serious.
An exchange of photos, of which we both liked, and it became real serious.
I had posted a resume out onto the net just for the hell of it and got a few hits but most were across the country or out of the country.
One day I got a call from a firm close by and went to an interview which turned into " We need you in Phoenix tomorrow".
The bucks and bennies were there, so off I go. Not calling her. Oops.
My daughter and her two girls were living with me so "It's all yours, see ya."
Ellie calls and finds out 'Granpa is in Phoenix'. Oops.
My daughter said "You should call this lady".
I did, and as she had a spring break coming up I told her "There is a round trip plane ticket waiting for you, if you want it".
She did.
The instant she walked out of that gangway I knew. Instantly, madly, in love.
She later told me "I liked you too".

Twenty wonderful, fun years.
Eight years ago she had health issues which weakened her a great deal.
Soon she was confined to a hospital bed into the living room.
I was her caretaker, best bud, and lover until last Monday.
I guess God thought she had had enough, and called her home.
God I miss her.
I know nobody reads this, but I had to put it down. For me.
Next post will be about guns and stuff.

  2. My condolences, Skip. For what it's worth, and I realize you already know this, you had a lot of good years with her, so try to focus on the good memories, that will help the pain ease over time.

  3. Good advice from Grog. My condolences. And for what it's worth, I regard people like you, who take "in sickness and in health" seriously as real heroes and exemplars.
    May you be blessed.

  7. You are a man like my Dad, a true hero who took care of my stepmom when she was diagnosed with Alzheimers, not letting any part of the system care for "his girl". Your bride was blessed to have you, and you, her.
